Funded by the Ministry of the Environment (MOEJ), this three-year research project will be carried out from 2024 to identify adaptation measures to make coastal communities in Pacific atoll nations, which are vulnerable to the effects of climate change, more resilient and sustainable.
The project adopts an interdisciplinary approach, bringing together experts in the natural sciences, social sciences, and engineering. Its greatest academic significance lies in its integration of previously separate topics such as "conservation and restoration of coral reef ecosystems," "coastal disaster prevention engineering," "building local community resilience," "economic analysis," and "international environmental cooperation," providing a cross-sectional view of the system, from scientific knowledge to social implementation.
